Direct on Target, Inc. started in 1980 as an wholesale distributor based in Bergen County, NJ. The company focused on golf as a component supplier serving golf shops nationwide. We opened our first retail store in 1986 in Beaverton, Oregon when the Nike HQ campus was just a vacant parcel of wetland. We only wanted to get rid of overstock and didn't expect the amazing response from the community about a new golf shop in the area. By 1991, DOT GOLF CENTERS became a consortium of strategically-located independent shop owners authorized to use the same name and logo (thus minimize bitter conflicts between competitors.) It was a very effective way for the small entrepreneuer to fight off the glut of "big box" retailers and national golf chains coming to town. The owners of DOT GOLF CENTER are experienced golf and teaching professionals who work more creatively and productively without the inconveniences of franchaise ownership.
